Injury prevention in tennis and padel
Padel is booming in Zürich, and tennis remains popular. Both sports demand a lot from the shoulder, elbow, calves and knees. With the right preparation, you'll stay on the court.
Mouse arm: tendon irritation in the forearm
Does your forearm burn after long days at the mouse and keyboard? What's behind mouse arm, what helps at your workstation and why strength training is the key.
Thumb saddle joint osteoarthritis (rhizarthrosis)
Does your thumb hurt when you open jars or turn a key? How thumb base osteoarthritis develops, and how exercises can make your grip more stable again.
Elbow Pain in Strength Training
If your elbow hurts during pull-ups, rows or curls, a tendon is usually overloaded. Here is how to tell which one is affected and how to rebuild it in a targeted way.
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Tingling in your thumb, index and middle finger at night? Here is how carpal tunnel syndrome develops, which exercises help and when you need a medical check-up.
Rotator cuff syndrome
The rotator cuff is a group of four muscles and their tendons that surround and stabilise the shoulder joint. These muscles (the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor and subscapularis) work together to hold the head of your humerus in the shallow socket of the shoulder blade and to allow controlled movement. As the only true ball-and-socket joint in the body, the shoulder offers the greatest range of movement, but this comes at the expense of stability.
Tennis Elbow and Golfer's Elbow
Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) and golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis) are overuse conditions of the tendons around the elbow. Although both arise from irritation or damage to the tendon attachments at the elbow, they differ in their exact location and in the muscle groups affected.
Shoulder Impingement Syndrome
Shoulder impingement syndrome describes a condition in which structures in the subacromial space, the area between the head of the upper arm bone (humeral head) and the shoulder roof (acromion), become pinched. These structures are typically tendons of the rotator cuff, above all the supraspinatus tendon, as well as the bursa lying between them (subacromial bursa).
Golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis)
Golfer's elbow, medically known as medial epicondylitis, is a painful overuse condition of the tendon attachments on the inside of the elbow. This irritation affects the forearm flexor muscles, which originate at the medial epicondyle, the inner bony prominence of the elbow.
Biceps tendon irritation
Biceps tendonitis (tendinitis of the biceps) is a painful inflammatory reaction of the tendon that connects the two-headed upper arm muscle (biceps) to the shoulder joint. It can affect the long head of the biceps tendon, which runs over the head of the humerus and attaches inside the shoulder joint, as well as the short head, which is attached to the coracoid process of the shoulder blade.
Osteoarthritis of the Shoulder, Elbow and Hands
Osteoarthritis can in principle occur in any joint of your body. In the upper limbs, meaning your arms, three areas are particularly often affected: the shoulder, the elbow and the finger joints. Each of these forms has its own particular features and challenges.
Post-traumatic shoulder instability
Post-traumatic shoulder instability often develops after an injury such as a shoulder dislocation or a severe trauma. It describes the state in which the shoulder joint no longer has the stability needed to carry out movements safely.
Frozen Shoulder
Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) is an inflammatory condition of the shoulder joint capsule.
